“British High Commission Hosts Reception for Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team Ahead of World Cup”

The Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team will leave the country on the night of May 24 to participate in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Ahead of their departure, the British High Commission in Bangladesh hosted a reception in Dhaka on Thursday evening in honor of the team.

Alongside the women cricketers and coaching staff, the event was attended by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors and distinguished personalities from different sectors of society. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s daughter Zaima Rahman was also present at the program

During the event, the British High Commissioner remarked that Bangladesh is not grouped with England or Scotland in the upcoming World Cup. Therefore, there is no conflict in supporting Bangladesh alongside England and Scotland. His comment drew applause from the guests present.

Praising the initiative taken by the British High Commission, BCB Women’s Wing chief Rashna Imam said:

“Bangladesh’s women cricketers are competing on the world stage despite overcoming numerous obstacles. Their journey is inspiring for women across society.”

Following the brief speeches, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty presented a commemorative Bangladesh team jersey to the British High Commissioner. Another souvenir was handed over on behalf of the BCB by director Syed Ibrahim Ahmed.

Later, the High Commissioner and Zaima Rahman joined the women cricketers in a photo session. During the event, Zaima Rahman also interacted personally with the players.

Speaking about the reception, captain Nigar Sultana Joty said:

“Receiving such an arrangement from the embassy of the country where we are going to play is truly encouraging. We want to give our best performance at the World Cup.”
