Bangladesh secured a 7-wicket victory against Hong Kong in their opening match of the Asia Cup. Riding on Liton Das’s fifty, Bangladesh chased down the target with 14 balls to spare. Skipper Liton Das played a fine innings of 59 runs.
In the Group ‘B’ clash, Hong Kong batted first and posted 143 runs for 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. This was Hong Kong’s highest-ever team total against Bangladesh in T20 cricket, surpassing their previous best of 114/8.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh comfortably reached home in 17.4 overs, thanks to a captain’s knock from Liton Das. His 59 off 39 balls included 6 fours and a six.
Among the other batters, opener Parvez Hossain Emon scored 19, while fellow opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim contributed 14. In the latter part, Towhid Hridoy (35*) and Zakir Ali Anik (0*) ensured Bangladesh crossed the finish line.
In this match, Liton Das also became Bangladesh’s all-time leading six-hitter in T20 internationals. He achieved the feat by hitting Yasim Murtaza for a six on the first ball of the 16th over.
With this, Liton’s tally of sixes in T20Is stands at 78, surpassing Mahmudullah Riyad.
