Bangladesh-Sri Lanka in Super Four

Afghanistan needed a win to qualify for the Super Four, but despite a fighting total from Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, Sri Lanka sealed a six-wicket victory in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (18 September).

With this result, Bangladesh advanced to the Super Four from Group B alongside Sri Lanka.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted 169 for 8 in 20 overs, thanks to a blistering 60 off 22 balls from Nabi and 24 from Rashid. Nuwan Thushara was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with 4 wickets for 18.

In reply, Sri Lanka chased down the target with eight balls to spare, riding on Kusal Mendis’ unbeaten 74 off 52 balls and Kamindu Mendis’ quickfire 26.

Sri Lanka topped the group with three wins from three matches (6 points), while Bangladesh qualified as runners-up with 4 points. Afghanistan finished third with 2 points.

Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka on September 20, India on September 24, and Pakistan on September 25 in the Super Four.
