Bangladesh are set to play a two-match Test series at home against Ireland. Ahead of the upcoming series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel has announced a 14-member squad.
Batter Zakir Ali has earned a call-up to the squad despite going through a tough phase in ODI and T20 formats. He has scored four fifties in six Tests and 11 innings. Meanwhile, Mahidul Islam Ankon misses out as he is part of the Bangladesh ‘A’ team for the Asia Cup.
For the Test series to be held in Dhaka’s Mirpur and Sylhet, Bangladesh have picked a pace-friendly squad. The team includes four fast bowlers—Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed. In the spin department, Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Murad have been included.
In the top order, Shadman Islam returns. He is likely to partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who has been selected despite not scoring a fifty in 14 innings since 2024. As a result, Anamul Haque Bijoy misses out on selection.
Bangladesh and Ireland will face off in the first Test of the series on November 11 in Sylhet. Mushfiqur Rahim will become the first Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 Test matches in that fixture.
