The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held with five teams. Although the decision was previously announced, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now confirmed the ownership of the five franchises.
Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Rangpur have been allocated as the five teams for the 12th edition. The BCB announced the final names of the five teams on Tuesday at 9 pm, following the BPL Governing Council meeting.
The board has also revealed the franchise owners for these five teams. According to the announcement, Champion Sports secured ownership of Dhaka, Toggy Sports got Rangpur, Triangle Sports will run Chattogram’s team, Cricket With Samie will operate Sylhet, while Nabil Group received ownership of Rajshahi.
After the meeting, BPL Governing Council member secretary Iftikhar Rahman Mithu addressed the media and said, “A total of 11 teams applied for the BPL. Three teams were excluded during the first selection phase. After thorough analysis and unanimous approval of the Governing Council, we finalized these five teams.”
He added, “Competition will even increase with five teams. Each team will have 11 players. We want to ensure opportunities for everyone in the country. Those under contract must receive their payments on time. The main reason for taking these steps is that BPL has gone to such a low point.”
The 12th edition of the BPL will be held between December 19 and January 16. Prior to that, the BPL players’ draft will take place on November 17.
Meanwhile, although the five teams have been finalized, their team names are yet to be confirmed. Previously, the BCB stated that once the names are finalized, they cannot be changed. Even if ownership changes, the franchise names will remain the same as before.
