M Nazmul Islam has been relieved of his duties as Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). At the same time, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the matter through an official press release Thursday [15 January]. The Board also reiterated that the interests of cricketers remain the highest priority for the BCB.
In the press release, the BCB stated that after reviewing recent developments and considering the interests of the organisation, BCB President Aminul Islam decided to remove Nazmul Islam from the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee.
The BCB further said that the decision was taken under the authority vested in the BCB President in accordance with Article 31 of the BCB Constitution, with the objective of ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of the Board.
Until further notice, BCB President Aminul Islam will serve as the Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee.
The press release also emphasised that the BCB places the highest priority on the interests of cricketers and remains committed to protecting the dignity and respect of all players under its jurisdiction.
Following Nazmul’s recent public criticism of cricketers, the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) demanded his resignation from the post of BCB director.
CWAB stated that if Nazmul failed to resign within 48 hours, the players would not return to the field. However, the BCB expressed hope that, following the Board’s action regarding Nazmul, the cricketers would soon return to the field and the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) would resume.
Due to the players’ boycott, Thursday’s (15 January) first match of the BPL between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express was not held. Ahead of the second match of the day, no players from either team arrived at the stadium.
In the press release, the BCB said it hopes that during this challenging time, all cricketers will continue to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and give their best for the development of Bangladesh cricket, and will make every effort to continue participating in the Bangladesh Premier League.
