Pacer Shoriful Islam etched his name into the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) record books with a sensational bowling performance against Noakhali Express at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on friday.
The Chattogram Royals fast bowler ripped through the Noakhali batting line-up, returning astonishing figures of 3.5-1-9-5, as Noakhali were bundled out for a modest 126. Chattogram later chased down the target to register a five-wicket victory.
It marked Shoriful’s maiden five-wicket haul in recognised T20 cricket, a landmark moment in his growing career.
The spell also saw Shoriful set a new BPL record for the lowest runs conceded by a Bangladeshi pacer in a five-wicket haul, surpassing the previous mark of 5 for 12 held by Abu Haider Rony, achieved for Rangpur Riders against Fortune Barishal in 2024.
However, the best bowling figures in BPL history still belong to Taskin Ahmed, who claimed an extraordinary 7 for 19 for Durbar Rajshahi last season.
Shoriful’s fiery spell not only powered Chattogram Royals to a crucial win but also underlined his emergence as one of Bangladesh’s most potent fast bowlers in the shortest format.
