Bangladesh Will Not Accept ‘Unreasonable Pressure’ from ICC
Asif Nazrul, Youth and Sports Advisor

Citing security concerns, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches in the T20 World Cup from India to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC has not yet officially communicated any decision on the matter.

Despite the lack of formal communication from the ICC, various media reports have claimed that the ICC is unwilling to accept Bangladesh’s demand and that Bangladesh would have to travel to India to participate in the World Cup. It has even been reported that Scotland could be included in the World Cup if Bangladesh refuse to play.

However, in response to a journalist's question at the Secretariat on Tuesday (January 20), Youth and Sports Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said, "To my knowledge, I have not heard anything to exclude us and include Scotland."

He added, “Our main point is this: if the ICC bows to the Indian board and puts pressure on us, or imposes any unreasonable conditions, we will not accept them. There are precedents for this — when Pakistan refused to travel to India to play, the ICC changed the venue.”

Reiterating Bangladesh’s position on the World Cup, the sports adviser said, “We have asked for a venue change for entirely logical reasons. By applying unreasonable pressure or imposing unjustified conditions, no one can force us to play in India.”
