Tamim Iqbal Aims to Restore Bangladesh Cricket’s Reputation

Former national captain Tamim Iqbal has vowed to restore the image of Bangladesh cricket after taking charge as head of the newly formed ad-hoc committee.

Speaking at his first press conference following the appointment, Tamim said, “Our first priority will be to fix the reputation of Bangladesh cricket.”

The National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the previous Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board on Tuesday (April 7) after allegations of irregularities in the election process. At the same time, the country’s apex sports body formed an 11-member ad-hoc committee, appointing Tamim as its head.

Tamim made the remarks after a meeting at the BCB headquarters. “Whenever someone takes charge, they usually talk about development and other plans. But personally, both I and my team feel that our first task is to restore Bangladesh cricket’s reputation,” he said.

Highlighting the recent challenges, Tamim added, “Over the past one to one-and-a-half years, Bangladesh cricket’s reputation has been significantly damaged. Fixing that reputation is our main job. We have been given the responsibility to ensure a free and fair election within three months. We will try to carry out this responsibility with honesty and as quickly as possible.”

He further said, “At the same time, we will continue regular cricketing activities, including matters related to the World Cup, and do whatever is necessary and right.”

Tamim also noted that several other important issues were discussed during the meeting.
