Shoriful Confident Bangladesh to bounce back in 2nd ODI against NZ

Shoriful Islam struck a confident note, saying Bangladesh have the ability to bounce back in the series by winning the second ODI against New Zealand national cricket team, scheduled for Monday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The hosts went down by 26 runs in the opening match despite starting as favourites against a New Zealand side missing several first-choice players.

"We still have two matches in our hands. We have the ability to turn things around," Shoriful said. "They are a good team, but we are also a good team. We will come back in the next match."

Initially left out of the playing XI, Shoriful got a late call-up after
Mustafizur Rahman felt discomfort in his right knee just before the toss. The left-arm pacer made an immediate impact, finishing as Bangladesh's most effective bowler with figures of 2- 27 in 10 overs.

His performance has now created a sweet selection dilemma for the team management, with Mustafizur reportedly regaining fitness. However, Shoriful said the decision rests entirely with the team leadership.

"As professional cricketers, all 15 members are ready. The coach will decide the XI and it's not in my hands. We will go with the combination that benefits the team," he added.

New Zealand had posted 247-8 on a slow surface before bowling Bangladesh out for 221 in 48.3 overs.

Despite the batting collapse, Shoriful avoided blaming the batters, instead stressing the importance of collective responsibility.

"When we lose, everyone feels bad. If we had bowled a bit better, things might have been easier for the batters," he said.

"I hope the batters will come back strongly in the next match, and we'll support each other. That's how cricket works. When we win, we win as a team."
