The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the first Test against Pakistan, with two uncapped players earning maiden call-ups to the national Test side.
Opener Tanzid Hasan and middle-order batter Amite Hasan have been included in the squad for the opening match of the two-Test series, which begins on 8 May at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Tanzid, already familiar in Bangladesh’s white-ball setup, has been rewarded for his strong performances in domestic red-ball cricket. The 25-year-old left-hander has scored 1,792 runs in 25 first-class matches at an average of 40.
Amite Hasan, a prolific 23-year-old right-handed batter, also gets his first Test call-up after consistent performances in the domestic circuit. Since making his first-class debut in 2019, he has played 82 matches and averages 49.
Chairman of the national selection panel Kazi Habibul Bashar said both players had earned their opportunities through sustained performances.
“Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket. He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests,” Bashar said.
“Amite has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket.”
Bangladesh have also welcomed back pace bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam to the Test fold for the first time since late 2024. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan has also returned after nearly a year away from the format.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the side, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named vice-captain.
The second Test of the series will be played in Sylhet from 16 May.
