Pakistan Fined, Docked WTC Points for Slow Over-Rate in Dhaka Test

Pakistan have been fined 40 per cent of their match fee and penalised eight ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first Test against Bangladesh at Mirpur in Dhaka.

The sanction was imposed by Emirates ICC Elite Panel match referee Jeff Crowe after Pakistan were found to be eight overs short of the required target once time allowances were considered.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl within the allotted time.

In addition, under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a team loses one WTC point for each over short. As a result, Pakistan have been docked eight points from their World Test Championship tally.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the offence and the proposed sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Kumar Dharmasena, third umpire Allahuddien Palekar and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel.
