The Bangladesh women’s cricket team will leave the country on the night of May 24 to participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Ahead of their departure, the British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a reception for the team on Thursday evening.
Players and coaching staff of the national women’s team attended the অনুষ্ঠানে alongside Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors and distinguished guests from different sectors of society. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Zaima Rahman, was also present at the event.
Speaking at the event, the British High Commissioner said Bangladesh had not been placed in the same group as England and Scotland in the upcoming World Cup, meaning there would be no conflict in supporting all three teams. His remarks were met with applause from the guests.
BCB Women’s Wing Chair Rashna Imam praised the initiative taken by the British High Commission, saying, “Bangladesh women cricketers have overcome many barriers to perform on the world stage. Their journey is truly inspiring for women in society.”
Following the brief speeches, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty presented a Bangladesh team jersey to the British High Commissioner as a token of appreciation.
On behalf of the BCB, director Syed Ibrahim Ahmed also handed over another commemorative gift. Later, the High Commissioner and Zaima Rahman joined the women cricketers for a photo session, while Zaima also interacted personally with several players.
Reflecting on the reception, captain Nigar Sultana Joty said, “Receiving such encouragement from the embassy of the country where we are going to play is truly inspiring. We want to give our best performance in the World Cup.”
