Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto, who was elected unopposed as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from the Rajshahi Division, has resigned from his position just one day after the board election.
Simanto submitted his resignation letter to newly elected BCB President Tamim Iqbal on Monday (June 8). In his resignation, he cited increasing business commitments as the primary reason behind his decision.
In the recent BCB election, Simanto was elected unopposed from Rajshahi Division under Category-1 after facing no challenger for the director's post.
Simanto is the son of Mir Shahe Alam. Since his father assumed ministerial responsibilities, he has been overseeing family businesses and managing affairs related to several limited companies and shareholdings.
Prior to the election, Simanto had already indicated through the media that he was unlikely to continue with the cricket board due to professional obligations.
“Bangladesh Cricket Board is a highly important institution with extensive responsibilities. At the same time, I currently bear full responsibility for our family businesses. It would be very difficult for me to coordinate everything and devote the necessary time to the cricket board. Considering the reality, I have decided not to remain on the board,” he had said.
Although he had the option to withdraw before the election, Simanto formally submitted his resignation on Monday, a day after the BCB election was held on June 7. His departure leaves the board with a vacancy shortly after the completion of the election process.
