Bangladesh suffered a 3-0 whitewash against Australia in the three-match T20 International series after a seven-wicket defeat in the third and final match in Chattogram on Sunday.
The Tigers had already lost the opening two matches by four wickets and seven runs respectively. However, they had earlier clinched the three-match ODI series against Australia 2-1 in Mirpur.
It was the eighth time Bangladesh had been whitewashed in a three-match bilateral T20I series. Previously, they had suffered two whitewashes each against New Zealand and Pakistan, and one each against Afghanistan, India and the West Indies.
After winning the toss at the Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Bangladesh opted to bat first but endured a disastrous start, losing three wickets for just 11 runs in five overs.
Openers Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hasan departed for 5 and 1 respectively, while Parvez Hossain Emon managed only 1 off 13 balls.
Stand-in captain Towhid Hridoy and Nurul Hasan attempted to rebuild the innings with a 23-run fourth-wicket stand before Adam Zampa bowled Nurul for 6. Shamin Hossain then fell without scoring to Spencer Johnson, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 36-5.
Hridoy and Rishad Hossain added 26 runs for the sixth wicket, but Rishad was dismissed for 16 off 14 balls by Nikhil Chaudhary. Nasum Ahmed also failed to score.
Shariful Islam contributed 7 runs in a 21-run eighth-wicket partnership with Hridoy, before Taskin Ahmed joined the vice-captain in an unbeaten 23-run stand for the ninth wicket that helped Bangladesh cross the 100-run mark.
Amid wickets falling at the other end, Hridoy stood firm and brought up his seventh T20I half-century. He remained unbeaten on 61 off 51 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, as Bangladesh posted a modest 109 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 110, Australia raced to 54 for 1 inside the powerplay. Nasum Ahmed provided the breakthrough by dismissing Josh Inglis for 17 in the sixth over.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh dominated the chase and completed his 14th T20I fifty off just 23 balls. He struck seven fours and four sixes in a blistering 60 from 28 deliveries before being dismissed by Shariful Islam. Australia had already reached 100 for 3 by then.
Matt Renshaw remained unbeaten on 6 alongside Tim David, who finished on 12 not out, as Australia secured victory with nine overs to spare.
Shariful Islam, Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain claimed one wicket each for Bangladesh.
Marsh was named Player of the Match, while Renshaw received the Player of the Series award.
