The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former South African cricketer Michael Smith as the batting coach of the Pakistan men's national team.
The 46-year-old has been handed a two-year contract and will work with the side across both red-ball and white-ball formats, the PCB confirmed on Tuesday.
Smith is set to join the Pakistan squad ahead of the three-match Test series against England, which begins on August 19.
During his playing career between 2003 and 2013, the right-handed batter featured in 89 first-class matches, 72 List A games and 16 T20 matches. He scored a combined 7,029 runs across all formats, including nine centuries and 40 half-centuries.
A Level 4 qualified coach, Smith brings extensive coaching experience to the role. He has previously been part of the coaching staff of three Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises — Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans.
He has also served as batting coach for Australia's Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania, while working as a coaching consultant with South Africa's KZN Inland and Eastern Province.
The appointment is part of the PCB's efforts to strengthen Pakistan's coaching setup ahead of a busy international schedule, with Smith expected to begin his duties before the home Test series against England.
