Tanzid Hits Century as Bangladesh Take Lead Against Australia

Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim struck a century while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto completed a half-century as Bangladesh took the lead against Australia in the first Test in Darwin.

Bangladesh reached 230 for two before the drinks break in the second session on day two, taking a 32-run lead over Australia with eight wickets in hand. Tanzid was unbeaten on 100, while Shanto was not out on 50 at the break.

Australia were bowled out for 198 on the opening day at Marrara Cricket Ground before Bangladesh began their first innings. The visitors finished the day on 96 for one, trailing by 102 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Tanzid and Mominul Haque resumed their unbeaten second-wicket partnership on day two. The pair added 102 runs from 189 balls before Mominul was dismissed for 49, becoming the first victim of Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood. Mominul struck eight boundaries during his innings.

The partnership was particularly significant for Tanzid, who registered his maiden Test half-century in only his second Test match.

After Mominul's dismissal at 138, Tanzid continued to build the innings alongside captain Shanto. The pair added an unbeaten 43-run partnership to take Bangladesh into the lunch break. Tanzid was unbeaten on 74 and Shanto on 28 at that stage.

Tanzid then reached his second Test century in only his second match in the format. Soon after Tanzid brought up his hundred, the umpires called for the drinks break.

At 230 for two, Bangladesh moved 32 runs ahead of Australia's first-innings total of 198. The visitors had faced 64 overs in their first innings before taking the lead.
