Mashrafe to return to cricket with BPL

Sylhet Strikers the franchise of the forthcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League unveiled its logo in flamboyant mode in a city’s hotel on Wednesday.

The ninth episode of the country’s lone T20 franchise tournament is scheduled to be held from January 5 to February 16, 2023.

The veteran player and Bangladesh's former ODI skipper, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who will make his return to cricket following his around one-year hiatus, has been named as the eye-con player for the side.

The 39-year-old played his last in the 2021–22 edition of the Dhaka Premiere League for Legends of Rupganj.

Another ex-captain, Rajin Saleh, will be playing his role as assistant batting coach, while former national team players Nafees Iqbal, Dolar Mahmud have been assigned as team manager and fast bowling coach respectively.

During the program, the franchise also announced the signings of Mohammad Amir (Pakistan), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka), and Dhananjaya De Silva (Sri Lanka) as overseas direct.

Mashrafe,who earned four titles as a captain in the 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017 editions of the BBPL, respectively,vowed to earn a crown for Sylhet following the logo unveiling.

'I know I'll give it my all because Sylhet has never won a crown.Therefore, I always underscored the importance of strong team management along with the core team. Now it depends on who will be included in the players' auction.’
