Government Making ‘Maximum Efforts’ to Ensure Safe Return of Bangladesh Football Team

The Bangladesh national football team has been stranded in Nepal due to the ongoing protests in the country. However, the government has assured that it is making the “maximum efforts” to ensure the safe return of the players and coaching staff.

This information was conveyed in a statement shared in the Youth and Sports Ministry’s WhatsApp group at 10:25 pm on Tuesday (9 September).

The statement said that the return of the Bangladesh national football team has been temporarily delayed due to the ongoing unrest in Nepal. Although the team was scheduled to fly back from Tribhuvan International Airport at 3 pm (local time) today (Tuesday), the worsening situation led the airport authorities to cancel all flights. As a result, the players and officials are currently staying at their team hotel.

It further mentioned that Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and smooth return of the team. Senior officials from the Office of the Chief Adviser and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are actively working to take the necessary measures for the team’s prompt and secure return.

The statement also confirmed that regular communication is being maintained with the Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal.

Additionally, in light of Nepal’s recent political developments—particularly the resignation of the Prime Minister—the Bangladesh government is maintaining close contact with the Nepalese Army to ensure the team’s safe return.

The statement added that the Youth and Sports Adviser has spoken over the phone with team captain Jamal Bhuiyan and team manager Amer Khan to check on the team’s condition and assured them that all necessary steps are being taken to facilitate their quick return home.
