Bangladesh has achieved a new milestone in international football, earning official recognition as a neutral venue for hosting international matches. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), in cooperation with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), is set to host Afghanistan’s home match in Dhaka — marking a new chapter for the country in global football event management.
The match, between Afghanistan and Myanmar, will take place in Dhaka on November 18, 2025, as part of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers. Although it is Afghanistan’s home fixture, the game will be held in Bangladesh as a neutral venue.
The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) formally requested the BFF to host the match, citing Bangladesh’s strong organizational and logistical capabilities. Following AFC’s approval, Dhaka was confirmed as the host city for the fixture.
The AFC recognized Bangladesh as a suitable neutral venue in South Asia due to its modern infrastructure, excellent security arrangements, and proven event management standards. With this recognition, Bangladesh joins the ranks of countries in the Middle East that regularly host neutral international matches.
Thanks to its improved facilities, efficient organization, and strong security system, Bangladesh’s reputation in international sports is rising steadily. The successful hosting of recent matches such as Bangladesh vs Singapore and Bangladesh vs Maldives at the Bangabandhu National Stadium has drawn positive attention from fellow South Asian football nations.
The Bangladesh Football Federation hopes that this recognition will open the door for more international football tournaments to be hosted in the country in the near future.
