The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has appointed German-born American Thomas Dooley as the new head coach of the Bangladesh national football team, officially concluding the process of selecting a new boss for the national side.
The appointment was confirmed through a press release issued by the BFF on Friday (May 22).
Ahead of the official announcement, Thomas Dooley arrived in Dhaka earlier on Friday morning.
Dooley brings more than four decades of experience in international football. During his playing career, he represented the United States national team and featured in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He also captained the USA side during the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced coach also boasts an impressive managerial career. From 2011 to 2014, Dooley worked as assistant coach of the United States national team under German football legend Jurgen Klinsmann.
He earned widespread praise after guiding the Philippines national team to the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in the country’s history. Under his leadership, the Philippines also achieved their highest-ever FIFA ranking.
Most recently, Dooley was in charge of the Laos national team. The BFF believes his experience and understanding of Asian football, along with its challenges and culture, will play a positive role in the development of Bangladesh football.
Dooley’s primary objective will be to transform Bangladesh into a more competitive and successful side by harnessing the potential of the country’s young footballers.
