FIFA Suspends Nepal Football Association from All Football Activities

FIFA has suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) from all football-related activities, preventing the country from participating in any international competitions.

The world football governing body informed ANFA of the decision through an official letter. Nepal's men's national team is currently ranked 175th in the FIFA World Rankings, while the women's team is ranked 88th.

According to FIFA, the suspension was imposed due to undue third-party interference in the affairs of the national football association. The decision stems from an ongoing dispute between ANFA and Nepal's highest sports governing authority, the National Sports Council (NSC), over the administration of football in the country.

FIFA regulations require national football associations to operate independently and without interference from government bodies. In a letter, FIFA Secretary General Matthias Grafström stated that FIFA had decided to suspend ANFA with immediate effect for serious violations of FIFA statutes.

Earlier, in March 2026, the National Sports Council suspended ANFA for three months while the association was preparing for an electoral process that had been approved by both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The suspension was later lifted in May.

FIFA further stated that the suspension would be lifted if the National Sports Council revokes the decisions taken in March and allows ANFA to complete its electoral process without interference.

The suspension means Nepal will be barred from participating in international football competitions until the issues raised by FIFA are resolved.
