Faruque Ahmed, former captain of the national team and director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) under the National Sports Council (NSC) quota, has been removed from his position. The NSC has cancelled his nomination following allegations of corruption.
The decision was officially announced on Thursday (May 29) at 10:59 PM via the Ministry of Youth and Sports' official WhatsApp media group.
Following the cancellation of his NSC nomination, Faruque Ahmed no longer holds the director position at the BCB. The BCB’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has been instructed to take necessary action in this regard.
According to the NSC, the decision was made based on two key factors: a formal letter of no-confidence submitted by eight BCB directors against Faruque, and findings from the recent investigation report by the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) fact-finding committee.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, the NSC had removed former directors Jalal Yunus and Sajjadul Alam and nominated Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedeen in their places. Later, when then BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon stepped down, the board elected Faruque Ahmed as the new president.
However, soon after taking charge, discontent began to grow among board members regarding his leadership. With the NSC now withdrawing his nomination over corruption allegations, Faruque has been officially removed from director at the BCB.
