Bangladesh fail to make semis of the Women's Asia Cup

Defending champion Bangladesh were knocked out of the group stages of the ongoing edition of the Women’s Asia Cup after their do-or-die game against the United Arab Emirates was washed out in Sylhet on Tuesday.

Given their superior run rate over Thailand, the home side desperately needed a win against the UAE to secure a spot in the last four of the competition, but rain forced a complete washout without a ball bowled.

Bangladesh, who earned their maiden Asia Cup crown defeating India in 2018, concluded with the fifth position on the points table, bagging five points from six ties sharing a point each with their UAE counterpart in the rain-washed game.

Thailand, who have six points from the similar number of matches, reached into the semis alongside India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh had beaten Thailand and Malaysia in the tournament while conceding defeats against India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
