Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan due to a back injury.
The left-handed batter has been suffering from pain in the right side of his lower back over the past week. Following medical assessments, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that Soumya will require a rehabilitation period of 10 to 12 days, making him unavailable for the tour.
“Following medical evaluation, it has been determined that the injury requires an extended rehabilitation period of approximately 10 to 12 days,” said National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan. “This effectively means that he will not be available for next week’s three-match series in Pakistan.”
In Soumya’s absence, the BCB has called up all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz to the squad. The 27-year-old, who has already played 29 T20 Internationals for Bangladesh, is currently in Pakistan, representing the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He is expected to join the national team in Lahore after completing his PSL commitments.
The three-match series in Pakistan is part of Bangladesh’s final preparations ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
