While other political parties in Bangladesh are active in the sports arena, Jamaat-e-Islami has had little activity. However, in the new Bangladesh, this political party is now becoming active in the field of sports. As part of this initiative, a delegation met with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul.
Amid election heat, on September 22 (Monday), a four-member delegation from Jamaat’s Youth and Sports Division met with BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul at the BCB office in Mirpur.
Regarding this sudden meeting with the BCB President, Dr. Mobarak Hossain, a central Majlis-e-Shura member of the party and also a member of the delegation, said that various issues related to reorganizing the sports sector were discussed with the BCB President.
When asked for details, he told Sportsmail24.com, “We want healthy entertainment and for the young generation to get opportunities truly based on merit. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami wants such an environment in the sports sector. We made various proposals to ensure that meritorious people get opportunities in the sector.”
He also mentioned that alongside meeting the BCB President, the delegation led by the party’s Assistant Secretary General also met with an adviser.
When asked whether the BCB election was discussed, Dr. Mobarak Hossain said, “No, we didn’t discuss elections. We mainly talked about how to make the sports sector more beautiful and inclusive so that everyone gets opportunities.”
“Whoever is in charge of the BCB, or whoever comes in the future, should run the sports sector properly. We want a qualified, good, and beneficial person for all,” he added.
Although Jamaat-e-Islami has no candidates in the current BCB election, the central leader indicated that the party would be involved in the future.
Dr. Mobarak Hossain said, “We will also have representatives (in the future). Our role in sports will remain open to everyone. We want the sports sector to be an arena of healthy practices.”
Speaking about Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in the future, he said: “By reforming federations or boards in an open and inclusive way for everyone, we want to play an effective role so that there is no corruption, irregularities, or discrimination. These are the issues we will work on, Insha’Allah.”
When asked whether Jamaat-e-Islami’s active involvement in sports would create any concern for female athletes, Dr. Mobarak replied:
“This is propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami. Before the DUCSU election, you also heard such propaganda—these are actually slanders.”
He further said: “Islam has given freedom to all and everyone will work in their workplace while maintaining modesty. Saying that Jamaat’s involvement would stop these or prevent work is nothing but negative propaganda.”
Dr. Mobarak Hossain added: “There is a large number of women who are contributing to the country. There is no way to hold them back—they must be encouraged. We want such an environment where women can continue to contribute in every sector while maintaining modesty and decency.”
