The newly formed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) faces its first major challenge in organizing the upcoming 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). However, Amjad Hossain, Chairman of the BCB Media Committee, said he does not see the tournament as a challenge and believes that all stakeholders must move forward with time.
Speaking to reporters at the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) on Wednesday after visiting three sports journalist organizations, Amjad addressed several questions regarding the BPL and revealed that franchise owners will receive a share of the league’s profits.
Amjad Hossain said, “To encourage franchises, we have introduced several revenue-sharing models. This time, the champion team will receive BDT 2.75 crore as prize money, while the runners-up will get BDT 1.75 crore. In addition, 30 percent of the net profit from three major revenue streams — worldwide media rights, ground rights, and ticket sales — will be shared with the franchises.”
He also mentioned that when a team is playing, the ground perimeter boards will be available for the team’s sponsors to display advertisements for 30 minutes during the match, with no charge imposed by the BCB.
However, the BCB has also set strict financial requirements for interested franchises.
“Interested franchises must submit their applications with a pay order of BDT 2 crore. The franchise fee will increase by 15 percent every year, as the team rights will be awarded for five years. Besides that, a bank guarantee of BDT 10 crore will be mandatory,” he said.
Explaining the reason behind the mandatory bank guarantee, Amjad stated,
“You know, we have received feedback from various quarters. So, to ensure smooth player payments and overall operations, a BDT 10 crore bank guarantee is required. The time duration will be six months, which must cover all related expenses within that period.”
