The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate Bangladesh’s matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 to a venue outside India, citing safety and security concerns.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the BCB Board of Directors held on Sunday [4 January] afternoon, where recent developments surrounding the tournament were discussed in detail. The T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
After reviewing developments over the past 24 hours, the Board expressed serious concern regarding the overall circumstances related to the participation of the Bangladesh national team in matches scheduled to be played in India.
Following a comprehensive assessment of the prevailing situation, growing security concerns for the Bangladesh contingent in India, and taking into account advice from the Bangladesh government, the Board resolved that the national team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions.

As a result, the BCB has officially approached the ICC, the event’s governing body, requesting that all of Bangladesh’s matches be relocated to an alternative venue outside India.
The Board stated that the move is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi players, team officials, Board members and other stakeholders, and to allow the team to participate in the tournament in a secure and appropriate environment.
The BCB said it is hopeful of the ICC’s understanding of the situation and is awaiting an urgent response on the matter.
