IPL broadcast stopped in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh government has issued a directive to suspend the broadcast of all matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and to refrain from airing any related programs. The directive was issued through a notice from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday (5 January).

In a notice titled “Regarding the suspension of broadcast/telecast of all matches and programs of the Indian Premier League (IPL)”, it was stated that it has come to notice that the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to be held from 26 March 2026 under the authority of the Indian Cricket Board, has excluded Bangladesh star cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders team.

No logical justification is known for such a decision by the Indian Cricket Board, and this decision has hurt, saddened, and angered the people of Bangladesh. Under these circumstances, it has been requested, by order, that until further instructions are issued, all matches and programs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) be kept off air from broadcast/telecast.

It is noteworthy that citing security issues the Indian cricket control board BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to drop Mustafizur Rahman from the team. Following the directive from the central authority, Kolkata dropped Mustafizur, who had been bought for INR 9 crore 20 lakh.

People from all walks of life in Bangladesh have been angered by such an unethical decision by the country. As a consequence, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has informed the ICC that the Bangladesh team will not travel to India to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
