Bangladesh secured their second consecutive victory in the men’s hockey competition at the 20th Asian Games, defeating Indonesia 3-1 in a Pool A match on Saturday.
Bangladesh made a difficult start as Indonesia took the lead in the sixth minute through Fathur Mochamad. However, the setback did not last long as Bangladesh quickly fought back.
Penalty-corner specialist Amirul Islam equalised in the 11th minute before scoring his second goal in the 31st minute to put Bangladesh ahead.
Russell Mahmud Jimmy then added a superb field goal in the 37th minute to complete Bangladesh’s 3-1 victory.
The win followed Bangladesh’s 5-1 victory over Sri Lanka in their previous match, giving them back-to-back wins in the ongoing Asian Games.
Bangladesh had earlier suffered defeats against strong opponents South Korea and hosts Japan, losing 5-0 and 6-1 respectively.
Bangladesh will now face India in their final Pool A match on September 28. The result will be crucial for their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.
