Bangladesh Women Finish Asian Games Hockey in Ninth Place

Bangladesh Women finished ninth in hockey at the Asian Games after defeating Singapore in a penalty shootout on Friday.

The 9th-12th place classification match was held at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium. After the regulation time ended 1-1, Bangladesh held their nerve to secure a 2-1 victory in the penalty shootout.

Both teams started the match aggressively, with Bangladesh taking the lead in the 10th minute. Irene Akter Ria scored a superb field goal to put Bangladesh 1-0 ahead, and the team went into half-time with the lead.

The second half saw the intensity increase. Bangladesh were reduced to 10 players in the 42nd minute when Lima Akter received a yellow card and was temporarily suspended.

Singapore took advantage of the numerical advantage and equalised two minutes later. Tau Li Min converted a penalty corner in the 44th minute to make it 1-1.

With neither side able to find a winner in regulation time, the match went to a penalty shootout. Bangladesh remained composed under pressure and eventually secured a 2-1 victory to finish ninth at the Asian Games.
