Bangladesh women’s cricketers Nahida Akter and Sharmin Sultana have both been fined 10 per cent of their match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship series against Sri Lanka in Rajshahi.
Nahida was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5, which relates to using language, actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter after dismissal. She gave a send-off to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu in the 17th over by pointing towards the pavilion after taking her wicket.
Sharmin, meanwhile, breached Article 2.8, which concerns showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. After being adjudged LBW in the 16th over of Bangladesh’s innings, she pointed to her bat, showed visible disappointment and delayed leaving the field.
Along with the fines, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary records of both players. Neither had any previous offence in the last 24 months.
Both players admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for formal hearings.
The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Dolly Rani Sarkar and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir Jesy.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 per cent of match fees, and one or two demerit points.
